Loy Krathong Festival

Like many rituals, the beginnings of Loy Krathong are somewhat
obscure. However, we know that the Thai people pay use this
occasion to pay their respect to the Empress of Water and express
gratitude for plentiful use of water and to ask for forgiveness for
any of the pollution that stems from its use.

Loy means to float and Krathong refers to a circular floating
object with decorations of banana leaves, flowers, a candle and
incense sticks. The candle and incense are lit and then the Krathong
are set in the water to bring good fortune and send away
misfortune and unfortunate events.
